Joelbear,
That is a very interesting point. I wonder if that is what the Witnesses would claim. However, I didn't realize that the Watchtower teaches that all people from 33AD to 1914 got a free card to everlasting life...is that really true????

faithful and discreet slave-33AD till 1914?
by erik inrecently, i have come across a question pertaining to the whereabouts of the faithful and discreet slave between the time of the first century christians and 1914.. i have heard two separate things.. 1) that there was no break between the time of the first century christians, and that there was in some way a faithful and discreet slave here on earth.

"jehovah's witnesses believe that this parable to the one true congregation of jesus christ's anointed followers.

While reading all these posts, I can't help but notice how bitter and mean Friday is towards everybody! I thought God tells us to love our neighbors and our enemies as well as to have humility. It seems, Friday, that you lack any of these qualities.
Why talk to others in such a condescending way - is it maybe because you know that, in fact, you do not have any proof or justification from the Bible to support your conclusion about the Star? In the three pages of this thread, you have yet to directly answer the question that has been put forth many times - where is your proof (and again, a Watchtower publication is not considered proof)???

Mox,
What is the wheat and weeds parable? Do witnesses believe they were "cleansed" in some way with the truth in 1918/9? By the way, how do they get to the 1918/9 number? Why didn't Jesus choose the FDS in 1914 when he first came down, why would he wait for 4-5 years?

So then does that mean that the teaching by Watchtower that the period from 33AD till 1914 was in the dark is because of the lack of annointed? Then, that would mean that the FDS did not get chosen until 1918, according to Witnesses, is that right? Then does that mean that God did not appoint a FDS for all those years? Why would God keep so many millions of people in the dark?

So then I am confused. Does the Society believe that there was a FDS from 33 A.D. till 1914 or not? Why then would the Watchtower be the "chosen" FDS if there was already a FDS over these many years, that obviously was not in the form of an organization?
How is it that so many current witnesses have no idea what some of the doctrinal basis and reasoning is. Although I was never a JW, my fiance, erik, and his family were in it for many years and a few are still in it or have gone back recently. Whenever we ask questions of some doctrine, usually the response is that "we will have to do research and get back to you". But, if this is the backbone of witness doctrine, shouldn't this be something that is studied thoroughly in all those bible studies?
just a question from someone who is trying to learn and understand all the complexities of the Witness interpretations and the Bible itself.

I posted this on another site, but I wanted to post it here as well:
Hi everyone,
I took the liberty of calling the UN Library to get some information. I spoke with the Head Reference Librarian, Ms. Dana Loytved at 212-963-8822 as well as Ms. Yengit from the Head Librarian's office at 212-963-7443. This is the information that I received.
As per Hawkaw's post earlier, yes, most depository libraries have lots of resources that you will find at the UN DHL Library. Ms. Loytved noted, though, that one problem would be that some libraries do not so far back in history with their documents, so it would really depend upon the library that you were using.
We then discussed the possibility of getting clearance to use the DHL Library at UN Headquarters. She said that all that is necessary is to fill out a form that has to go through a security clearance and any individual or organization that needs to use the library usually can get access. The range of time varies, but sometimes access is given for months at a time. She said that this option has always been available even before 1990. She did mention that, in light of the recent 9/11 disaster, it has become more difficult to pass security clearance for such access.
So, in fact it is now more difficult to get access to the library and such information. Interesting, since WTBTS disassociated itself and now would not have such access. Does that mean that whatever research they were doing will no longer be done at all? Or could it be that, in fact, WTBTS will have to resort to going to a UN Depository Library to get the same information they likely would have gotten anyways at the UN DHL Library?????
Any comments?

joelbear - Gators are no doubt good this year, but nobody is better that UM!!!! Go canes Go! I have been a loyal fan of UM since I was in elementary school. I grew up going to Hurricane games and even cheered at a couple games as a high school cheerleader since my high school is about a mile from UM and we had a relationship with their football coach. Now, I teach part time at the law school!
bigboi - as for FSU!!! Keep dreaming! FSU has lost any hope of making it again this year. Not only did I watch every second of the game that Miami beat FSU - But, I also went to college at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and am a die hard Carolina fan, so I watched the Heels spank the Noles!
GO CANES!
